I absolutely love keeping a jar of stewed fruit in the fridge made from what ever fruits the current season has to offer. Winter means pears and apples, summer means stone fruits. Delicious!

Not only does stewed fruit taste amazing, but it is wonderful gut loving food due to the gel like, soluble fibre component which encourages growth of healthy bacteria and keeps the bowels healthy!

Another big plus it stewed fruit is so versatile, Mix it in with your porridge, put it with a dollop of natural yogurt and some nuts and seeds, have it on top of pancakes, make a fruit crumble or just have it nice and hot on its own! Also a great one kids!

YOU NEED

Whatever seasonal fruit you choose. Pictured is an apple/pear combination (3 apples, 5 pears)

1 stick of cinnamon

2 full star anise

1/4 cup water

1 tsp organic honey (optional)

Zest of an orange or a few drops of wild orange doterra essential oil (optional)

METHOD

Core your fruit and cut it into chunks (leave the skin on)

Place fruit and all other ingredients into a large pot

Bring to the boil and then simmer for around 30 minutes

Store in fridge and/or freeze in daily portions (will freeze for months)

Serve hot or cold (i LOVE mine nice and warm)
